Biography

Elected Fellow of the Australian Academy of the Humanities in 2004;
Awarded: Order of Australia [Member in the General Division] citation: "For service to the visual
arts and to contemporary Australian artists as an educator, critic and writer, and as an art
historian" in 2005
Appointed to the Sir William Dobell Chair of Art History in 2006 citation "the University
recognises your pre-eminent national and international research, publication and teaching record.
This is in terms of not only the high quality of your research, but the large volume and sustained
nature of your contribution".
Awarded 2008 Citation for Outstanding Contribution to Student Learning from the Australian
Learning & Teaching Council citation reading "For the creation of innovative and vocationally
orientated methods of teaching art history and curatorship".

Completing commissioned books and curatorial projects:

Multi volume publication on the travels of the late Byzantine monk Bars'kyj

Completing monographic publications on the  painter David Larwill, painter John Passmore and photographer Joyve Evans

Curating major exhibition for the National Gallery of Victoria looking at the art of George Baldessin and Brett Whiteley.
